Cosmos to play home games in Vaal

This was announced yesterday by Jomo Sono, Ezenkosi owner-coach, adding that they will use the Vaal University of Technology Stadium for their home games.

The new-look Cosmos play their opening game of the 2008-2009 season against Witbank Spurs at the same venue on August 30.

“We will be playing our home games at the university until the refurbishing of Rand Stadium has been completed,” said Sono. “Everything is on track with regard to our preparations for the new season; we have been playing a series of friendlies with various clubs.”

The upgrading of Rand Stadium started last year and it will be used as one of the training venues during the 2009 Confederations Cup and World Cup.

Cosmos have managed to hold on to a number of good players after the relegation of the club from the Premiership to the First Division at the end of last season.

Those who remained include Bamuza Sono, Avril Phali, Swazi international Siza Dlamini, Lucky Mhlathe, Gerald Mtshali, Thapelo Tshilo and Lethola Mofokeng.

Cosmos have also signed Collen Makgopela from Platinum Stars, Namibian George Hummel and Tshepiso Hlalele, formerly with Black Leopards.
