KickOff.com has gathered that the Students have chosen to follow in the footsteps of Jomo Cosmos, who elbowed Anthony Laffor out of the team after he had signed for Matsatsantsa.
Wits are apparently annoyed that they will be losing their best player this season to United and have chosen to frustrate Chivuta by not selecting him for games.
Chivuta’s absence was conspicuous in the 1-0 defeat to AmaZulu last Wednesday night.
The Zambian midfielder, who has been a regular at Wits this season, has already signed a two-year contract with Supersport, who he will join as a free agent after the expiry of his contract in June.
“Chivuta will now only just attend training until the end of the season because there is little, if any, chance that he will be fielded. He will not be selected for games because the club suspects that his level of commitment is now weak since he already has his mind on Supersport,” says a KickOff.com informant.
“Prior to the AmaZulu game Chivuta attended training like he has always done, but was ignored when the team to play was selected.”
The Wits’ technical department is believed to have not been impressed about Chivuta’s input in the 1-0 loss to Black Leopards, which was played just a day after it was made public that the Zambian had signed for Supersport.
In that game Chivuta was substituted just minutes into the start of the second half.
Since Fifa rules state that players can negotiate new contracts with other clubs six months before the expiry of their contracts, Chivuta was within his rights to agree to a new deal elsewhere.
