Sikhakhane back for Chippa

Sikhakhane, who never left the payroll of the club, will be on the bench for the Absa Premiership clash against BidVest Wits on Sunday, having recovered from the ‘personal problems’ which saw him leave the club at the end of last season having led them to promotion.

He was replaced by Manqoba Mngqithi, who was fired after just two matches, with club boss Chippa Mpengesi claiming he was simply “not a good fit” for the club.

Sikhakhane will be assisted by Julius Dube, who was in caretaker charge of the club for their 0-0 draw at Black Leopards last time out, and former Bafana Bafana goalkeeper coach Farouk Abrahams.

“I worked with the team last season so I know the big job that I have ahead,” Sikhakhane said on Thursday. “I want to try by all means to take this team to the top eight.”

Mpengesi explained Sikhakhane had left at the end of the last campaign because he had personal problems at home in Durban. But refused to elaborate.

“We know what he is capable of and we were sad when he went away. We are confident is ready to take over again and so he is officially reinstated as head coach.

“Roger is part of the family, we are planning to groom him and help him get all the qualifications he needs because we believe he is one of the best young coaches in this country.”
