Benni’s Christmas wish

The Citizens coach has enjoyed an impressive first six months in his first stint as a head coach, guiding the club to second on the log at the halfway stage of the season, while helping the side reach this year’s MTN8 final as well.

The club has grown in leaps and bounds since its inception in June 2016, enjoying a growing following as they continue to thrive in expanding their brand.

Yet with near-empty stadia the norm for the majority of PSL matches, McCarthy says his Christmaswish for next year is for fans to show more love for the local game.

“I wish that people will continue to support our football, because there is talent on show and our players are getting better and better,” he said. “The more people that come to the stadium to support this beautiful game we all love, the better the performances will be.

“I hope people will come out and support, so our talents will keep growing and growing and our football will only get better.”

McCarthy then sent out his Christmas messages, urging South Africans to be safe on their travels.

“I wish everyone a very merry Christmas,” he said. “Be safe out there on the roads – we don’t want people losing their lives at this time, so people must be responsible and sensible.”

City will reassemble on December 28 ahead of their first game of 2018 against Platinum Stars on 6 January.
