Mahamutsa, who is presently with the South African development squad at the Cosafa Cup tournament in Mpumalanga, has signed a three-year contract with the Mighty Buccaneers.
The 26-year-old defender was set to sign with Mamelodi Sundowns after spending pre-season training with them in Mpumalanga, but the Brazilians changed their mind and decided against signing him.
Mahamutsa’s manager Ditheko Marago has confirmed that the player will only join Pirates after the Cosafa tournament where South Africa play Mozambique in the finals on Sunday.
“I don’t know why Sundowns decided against signing him after showing interest, but I am happy that Pirates acted quickly and gave the player a contract.
“He is a versatile player who can play at any position at the back, but I think he is better suited at right-back,” Marago adds.
