Luiz: WC wounds have healed

The Mundial hosts were stunned 7-1 in the semi-finals of this year’s event, before losing in the 3rd/4th place play-off against the Netherlands.

“Everything has been said and explained,” Luiz told a press conference in Beijing ahead of their two upcoming friendlies. “The wounds have already healed.

“The new players are also aware of what happened and now we have to think about what's coming in the future, not what has already passed. If we dwell on too much on the past we will be unable to evolve.”

Newly-included Atletico Mineiro striker Diego Tardelli echoed Luiz’s sentiments, saying his side are ready to move on and forget their shock defeat to the eventual champions.

“It's part of the past. I personally try not to ask them about it, because we know how painful it was,” Tardelli said.

“This is a new team with two wins under the command of Dunga and we have to cherish the moment.

“Football will always give another chance to players who will be asked to erase what happened.”

Brazil are gearing up for Saturday’s friendly against South American rivals Argentina, before another friendly encounter against Japan on Tuesday.
