Brazilian striker dies in crash


Fernandao was best known for helping Internacional to victory in the Copa Libertadores and FIFA World Club Cup in 2006.

According to news reports, four other people were on board when the helicopter crashed and there were no survivors.

Fernandao, whose full name was Fernando Lucio da Costa, was 36.

“I am saddened by the death of #Fernandão, a hero to all Internacional fans and all lovers of football,” tweeted Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff.

“On the field he was world champion, off the field he was an example of a man of character.”

Fernandao played 190 times for Internacional and scored 77 goals. He also managed the side in 2012.
