Larsen: We have defeated Pirates before

Larsen – whose charges were handed a 2-1 defeat by the Premiership newcomers – is confident his players will be equal to the huge task of playing against the defending League Champions.

The two teams will lock horns at the Free State Stadium on Sunday. (Kick-off is at 15h00).

Larsen believes the mental attitude of his players will be different against Pirates, as they are always motivated by the prospect of playing a big team.

"As a coach you don't need to motivate players when they come up against a big club like Pirates, playing against them is a motivation in itself," Larsen tells the Bloemfontein Celtic website.

"We will look to return to winning ways when we face Pirates this weekend. It will be important for us to display the same mentality and winning attitude that we showed in our last home match against Ajax Cape Town, because every game we play is important.

"We treat all the teams the same and Pirates will not be the exception. We will treat them with the same level of professionalism like we do to any other clubs," he adds.

Larson points out that his charges have in the past managed to collect maximum points at the expense of big teams such as Pirates.

"We have proven in the past that we can beat any big team in this division. Last December, we defeated both Pirates and Supersport before the Christmas break.

"I believe that we can beat them again this time around. But we need to be on top of our game to achieve that," Larsen says.
