Big Three mark floodlights return

The PSL’s big three will headline the return of domestic football to evening kick-off times which will still align with the coronavirus alert regulations.

With stringent measures enforced in the covid-19 enforced lockdown since last year, all games have been played during the day with the late kick-off games starting at 17h30.

Orlando Pirates will set the ball rolling this evening against Baroka at Orlando Stadium in a match that goes back to the traditional midweek kick-off time of 19h30.

Then on Saturday, Kaizer Chiefs will welcome Cape Town City at FNB Stadium at 18h00.

Later, the same day champions Mamelodi Sundowns will be at the Danie Craven Stadium for a date with Stellenbosch in a match set for 20h15.

Cape Town City will start at 19h30 against Maritzburg United on Tuesday with Golden Arrows kicking off at the same time against Chiefs the next day at Princess Magogo.

The Tshwane derby next week Saturday is also pencilled in for 20h15 at the Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium.

For now, the curfew hours remain plugged at midnight to 04h00.

Though a maximum of 2000 people may gather at outdoor events like football matches played at stadiums the PSL has decided to continue playing games without fans.

The last league game to be played at 19h30 was between Stellenbosch and Sundowns on March 11 in the lead up to domestic football being suspended due to the coronavirus.

The last 20h15 kick-off league match was when Chiefs lost to AmaZulu 1-0 at FNB Stadium on March 7 last year.
