Benni gets an outing under new coach

McCarthy featured in the first half of the game, his first outing since Paul Ince took over as Blackburn’s new manager.

But Aaron Mokoena was not available as he is still on holiday after his World Cup qualifying competition exploits with Bafana Bafana last month.

McCarthy, who did not play for his country last month, hit the outside of the post with a turn and shoot attempt in the early exchanges, but failed to get his name on the score sheet before going off for a rest at the start of the second half.

Blackburn have upcoming friendlies against Portuguese giants Benfica and Sporting Lisbon and also play against Wolverhampton Wanderers and Dutch club NAC Breda before they start the new Premier league season.
