Mahashe would love to play more

Mahashe, whose contract with the club is set to expire in June, was key for Baroka as they survived relegation via the play offs in June, but the addition of new players at the start of the current campaign saw him having to watch more of the team’s matches from the bench.

The 29-year-old has made seven league appearances for Bakgaga, who are in fourth place in the Absa Premiership.

“Personally I could say that I am happy, but there were ups and downs in my performances,” he tells

“I thought I would carry on from where I left off last season, but this season I am more of a squad player. I am still happy with my performances even though I am not a regular starter. Every player wants to play [regularly], but the team is doing well at the moment. It’s not about me, but about the team.”

He added: “I would say it’s been a tough year because we were fighting relegation last season and then this season we are in the top four.”

Baroka will take on Orlando Pirates at Orlando Stadium on Saturday. They played to a 1-1 draw in the first half of the campaign at Peter Mokaba Stadium.
