Barca beat Espanyol to go back top

The Catalan faithful may have feared spending the weekend trailing La Liga title rivals Real Madrid in the standings after going into the half-time break against Espanyol level pegging.

However, Barca finally found their way through after the break as Luis Suarez opened the scoring on 50 minutes after pouncing on Jurado’s lazy pass across his own area before firing past Diego Lopez.

The visitors eventually made sure of the points 14 minutes from time as Ivan Rakitic got their second, although it was Lionel Messi who did most of the hard work to run through the midfield before setting his team-mate up for what proved a simple finish.

Suarez would eventually grab his brace with three minutes of regulation time remaining, Espanyol providing another gift with a miss-kicked clearance which the Uruguay striker made no mistake to slot home.

The result saw Barcelona climb above Real Madrid in the standings on goal difference, although the Catalan giants have played a game more than the Galacticos, who have four matches still to go this term.
