Usuthu PRO Philani Mabaso confirmed the news, saying the Ghanaian is scheduled for a week-long trial.
“The club decided to let him go because we are not engaged in PSL action due to the international weekend. He will be back for our Telkom Knockout game against SuperSport United here at home.
“We are happy for him, but since he is one of our key players, we would like him to leave us at the end of the season,” said Mabaso.
Awal, who left for Serbia on Wednesday, joined Usuthu two seasons ago and has represented his country at Under-17 and Under-20 level.
