Cole set for Roma switch

The 33-year-old, who was released by the Blues at the end of last season, had been in talks with numerous clubs, yet looks set for a move to the Giallorossi as he flew in for talks with the Serie A runners-up ahead of a proposed free transfer to the Capital Club.

Roma’s official twitter account read, “Welcome to Rome, Ashley!” as an anticipated two-year deal is set to be negotiated for the former England left-back.

Cole was a bit-part player under Jose Mourinho last year, making just 15 starts before deciding to move away from London after eight years at Stamford Bridge.

Cole was left out of Roy Hodgson’s 23-man squad for this year’s FIFA World Cup and consequently retired from international football.
