Downs fans: Ted must go

A crowd of some 300 angry supporters demonstrated outside the entrance of the stadium after the game.

In contrast, coach Trott Moloto got an ovation from the fans when he bravely ran the gauntlet to the bus about 45 minutes after the match.

Dumitru, however, did not face the fans, sneaking out through the back entrance of the stadium accompanied by a heavy police presence.

So tense was the situation at the stadium that even club owner Patrice Motsepe could not find time to wave and greet the club fans as he normally does, and was whisked away in his Mercedes Benz to muted jeers from the fans.

Dumitru joined Sundowns at the start of the season as technical director and has the ear of Motsepe, but fans feel the technical director's influence on the club has been negative one and blame him for a run of three matches without a win.

"Motsepe must blame himself – he brought Dumitru to Sundowns," said one of the club’s supporters. "We will continue doing this until is fired or resigns from the team."

Dumitru is known to have told Moloto not to select the hard-working Chile international Jorge Acuna, who had won much admiration from the fans for his work-rate.

Meanwhile, sources close to the club have revealed that Dumitru has been cutting a lone figure recently, with both the technical team and administration personnel clashing with the former Kaizer Chiefs coach.

One Sundowns official, who wished to remain anonymous, described Dumitru as a 'liar' who is overstepping his duties at the club, demonstrated recently by his statements concerning defender Mbulelo Mabizela’s alleged disappearance.

Dumitru said the player had gone for a knee operation but it has emerged Mabizela missed the scheduled surgery because of car crash last weekend.

“Dumitru is the biggest liar in the world,” the official said. “He was exposed in public when both Mahlatse [Mphahlele, media and communications manager at the club] and [team manager] Harris Chueu dismissed his statement in the media that Mabizela did not report for camp due to injury. This man is messing up things in the club and soon Trot will also show that is not enjoying working with him."

Moloto refused to comment on his relationship with Dumitru, but conceded that he is starting to feel the pressure at the club.

"There will always be pressure on a coach when the team is not winning, and I am feeling the pressure now at Sundowns," he said. "Following our loss today [Saturday], it’s back to the drawing board to rectify some of our mistakes"
