Fadlu: Fileccia vying with Zakri

Maritzburg are back in action this evening for the first time since their goalless draw with Kaizer Chiefs at the same venue on August 17.

The Team of Choice are still without a win this season, having lost three out of four matches in all competitions.

United have worryingly only scored once and conceded five goals in the process, although Zakri's availability could help in this regard following his capture from Mamelodi Sundowns last month.

"Zakri is in his fifth week of training and he should be ready in that regard," Davids said.

"The competition between him and Andrea Fileccia on which one should start is definitely a question.

"They have to fight for their places. They have to really show who wants the jersey to play the number one role, but everybody has been pushing. So it is about fighting for the jersey."

He added: "We'll see what is the best line-up. It's not necessarily the best players, but the best team on the pitch that is the most important thing."

Meanwhile, Davids acknowledged big-spending log leaders Wits operate in a different space to his modestly-assembled outfit.

"They are a team fighting for the league," he said.

"You can't compare Bidvest Wits fighting for the league and us fighting for the top eight, they're two different situations. They have signed over 10 new players, quality players, and you can see the whole frontline is new players.

"You talk of [Mxolisi] Macuphu, [Gift)] Motupa, [Haashim] Domingo, [Terrence] Dzvukamanja, [Deon] Hotto. You can go through to [Robyn] Johannes at the back. Those are all in their starting line-up that they have signed.

"It's a new team they have and definitely they'll be challenging for the league. They'll be up there with the best of them at the end of the season I'm sure."

In team news, Keagan Buchanan faces a lengthy time out with a knee injury, fellow midfielder Siphesihle Ndlovu is suspended, while Yazid Atouba and Deolin Mekoa are doubtful with knocks.

However, Fortune Makaringe has served his suspension and Brian Onyano has shaken off a knee problem.

New signing Nazeer Allie is also in line to make his debut against his former club after regaining fitness.
