Dumisani Ngwenya scored a brace for AmaZulu while Gift Leremi pulled a goal back for Sundowns.
The homeside did not look sharp and gave a poor display overall, and even though they had more possession could not make it count.
AmaZulu to their credit defended well and looked a well organized side.
The first goal was scored when Benson Mhlongo failed to clear the ball only for Dumisani Ngwenya to dribble into the box and score with a shot past keeper Brian Baloyi from close-range in the 41st minute.
In the 53rd minute Ngwenya scored again with a shot from outside the box on the right giving Baloyi no chance.
Sundowns pulled a goal back six minutes later when Manqoba Ngwenya put through a quality pass for Gift Leremi (pictured) to score with a shot, his second goal in two games.
Both sides scored goals late in the game, Ngwenya for Sundowns and Sibusiso Ntuli for AmaZulu but both were adjudged to be offside.
