AmaZulu in line for Charity Cup spot

AmaZulu appear in line for a first-ever appearance in the popular season opening tourney to be played at Mmabatho Stadium on August 2.

Usuthu have gained their inspiration from Platinum Stars, who miraculously managed to vote their way into the tournament last year despite not having a huge fan base.

Since voting lines opened up on June 18, AmaZulu have kept up the pace among the top four especially in the last week.

The Durban-based club has elbowed crowd pullers Bloemfontein Celtic into fifth place for the better part of the past week.

As of Friday, Usuthu had piled up 20 080 votes compared to Celtic’s 18 593 in the battle for the final fourth place that guarantees participation in the Charity Cup.

The top three spots continue to be occupied by traditional participants Kaizer Chiefs, Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates.

The voting lines for the one-day spectacle won by Celtic last year will continue open until July 25.

Though all 16 teams that competed in the PSL last season are eligible the top four spots are being fought for by only five clubs.
