Al Ain winger Hussein El-Shahat was surprisingly overlooked by head coach Hector Cuper, despite scoring 19 goals and registering 18 assists this season.
However, the 26-year-old had no qualms about the decision and feels the exciting seven-time Africa Cup of Nations champions will be the surprise package in Group B, alongside Saudi Arabia, Uruguay and hosts Russia.
"Whether they were going to take me or not I will always respect the decisions of the technical staff," El-Shahat told DMC Sports. "I am not sad and I hope the team will honor our country and the whole Arab world in the World Cup.
"The Uruguay match is definitely the toughest, and if we succeed in achieving a positive result, either a win or a draw, it will pave our way to qualify for the second round.
"I think Egypt will be the surprise of the World Cup and will make it to the second round."
