45' – England are nearly undone just before the break by a route one punt by Navas upfield to Brenes, who cuts back to shoot, but it's blocked. A direct path to goal may have been more beneficial.

42' – Barkley shows some quick feet on the edge of the area to beat two defenders, moves the ball onto his left foot to shoot, but it's well wide as he loses his balance.

39' – Now it's Foster's turn to collect a Costa Rica cross to take the pressure off his defenders following a counter-attack.

36' – Milner shows good pace and skill down the left to beat his man and put in a cross, but Navas is out smartly to collect and relieves the pressure.

35' – Successive corners for England ends with Jones heading across to Sturridge, who can't keep his header down.

27' – PENALTY APPEAL waved away for England! The ball is headed down to Sturridge in a great position, but a defender gets back to shield the ball to Navas. Sturridge was impeded, but not enough for a penalty. Still, seen them given...

Costa Rica have made two changes from the starting eleven that beat Italy 1-0 in their previous match, with Roy Miller and Randall Brenes coming in for Michael Umana and Christian Bolanos.

England have made nine changes to the starting lineup that lost 2-1 to Uruguay, with only Gary Cahill and Daniel Sturridge surviving the chop.

The Three Lions will be using tonight's game as a chance to test the future players for England, as the youthful starting eleven suggests.
