Maritzburg carved out the first attack after Thabiso Kutumela’s short corner found Mxolisi Kunene, but the final shot sailed wide of goal on 10 minutes.

Spurs showed immense accuracy when Bonginkosi Nkosi turned home Joshua Sauls nicely structured cross for a 15th minute breakthrough.

United soon equalised after Yannick Zakri collected a pass to finish from close-range after 25 minutes on his return.

The Team of Choice surrendered the lead within a minute after Khethukula Zwane was offered space and time to pick his spot for a comfortable finish.

Spurs didn’t let up as Peter Mubayiwa showed composure after bringing down a long ball in the box, but a last ditch tackle from Rushine De Reuck saved Maritzburg's blushes on 55 minutes.

The visitors were eventually level after 66 minutes when Zakri completed his brace after rising high to nod home.

United almost stole the winner two minutes from time as Fortune Makaringe smashed the final shot off the upright as extra time came to the fore.

On 99 minutes, Zakri’s cross out wide found Pagisho Sanoka but the full-back’s final shot was cleared off the line, before Sanoka's powering header came off the crossbar two minutes later.

With no action happening for the duration of the match, penalties was needed to decide the overall winners, with Spurs winning 5-4 after Miguel Timm’s saved effort.
