The Bucs' struggles are as clear as the summer sky that Jonevret has seen for most of his time in the country, with Pirates failing to get into second gear and reach the minimum of what is expected of them.

Though the Swede adopted the mess, he hasn’t unlocked the screws that have been tightening this great club into the difficult situation that they are still stuck in with the win – against amateurs EC Bees – the only victory that Pirates have recorded in a chain stretching 14 games.

It’s just been pandemonium for The Bucs who have conceded 25 goals in those 14 games and are without a clean sheet under Jonevret – actually they have conceded in all but one of the 14 games that define their spell of shame.

“I wouldn’t say so,” replies the Swede about whether this ranks as the toughest challenge of his coaching career at a club where he is now the fourth coach to take charge within the last 12 months.

“Of course you always feel some pressure when you working with this [kind of situation] but at the same time I feel like when you get in a way like this it is just an opportunity to try and do something. It is a tough situation but I still see opportunities and I still see that there is a lot of talent in this group so I don’t know if I want to say it is the toughest one. But of course it is a tough situation.

“It is a tough situation for the club because they are not used to being in this situation. If it is my toughest, I don’t know. I don’t want to say that because I don’t want to have that headline. But of course it is a tough situation for all of us who are working at the club. But it is football and it is fun and so I don’t feel that it is tough to go to your job every morning. It is fun to wake up to a new day with a lot of young motivated people and players as well so I still think it is very fun but it is a tough situation,” says Jonevret.

This weekend the Swede gets temporary reprieve from the crisis that Pirates have sunk into as he switches focus to the Nedbank Cup last 16 tie against Free State Stars on Saturday night. They lost to Stars at the same venue in Orkney last weekend.
