Keene plays down SuperSport talk

Nedbank Cup

Keene has been impressive since making his debut in January with eight goals in 11 starts, elevating him to amongst the league’s top scorers.

That remarkable run of form has ignited the customary talk of a possible move away from Wits, where his contract expires at the end of June.

“At the moment I am focusing on the job that I have to do here at Wits,” Keene tells

“We have a league title to chase and that is where my focus and that of everyone else is at the moment. We also want to do well in the [Nedbank] Cup.

“I also have to make mention of that I am happy here at Wits and I have enjoyed working with Gavin Hunt. What happens at the end of the season is something that I haven’t put into my head because I don’t want to have distractions when we have important things to be focusing on as a club.

“I mean, we have a chance to win the league title and we know it is possible and we will make it very much interesting. The main target is to make sure that we take points in our next league game and keep going like that.”

Keene adds: “I know that my name is now amongst those doing the chase for the league’s top goalscorer award, but that I am not even thinking about that.

“Truth be told, it will be a big ask for me to want to win that award when I have only played half a season. So I will rather keep doing the job of trying to make sure that my team wins every game and gets the point that we need in this league chase.

Keene has seven league goals and one in the Nedbank Cup.
