RDS: Mabena can carry the Bucs jersey

Mabena was brought on for Daine Klate with eight minutes to go in regulation time in the MTN8 Final against Platinum Stars on Saturday.

The match went to penalties after a 1-1 draw, and Mabena’s composure deserted him in the shoot-out. He, Rooi Mahamutsa and Lennox Bacela all missed their spot-kicks as Bucs bowed out.

Mabena has come in for a lot of criticism from fans in the wake of the match, but De Sa says he still has faith in the player.

“At training Mabena does unbelievable stuff, so we believe that he will turn the corner. I think there is a lot of pressure on him,” ‘RDS’ said.

“The Bucs jersey is heavy. Some people carry it and some can’t. I still feel Mabena can carry his Bucs jersey, he is disciplined and works hard.

“In SA we are quick to praise a player, but just as quick to knock him down. I’m saying let’s be patient with Mabena.”
