Pirates cruise through to MTN8 Final

Leading 2-0 after the first leg, the Buccaneers added three more goals including a brace from Lehlohonolo Majoro to set up their fifth consecutive cup final appearance.

Kermit Erasmus got the ball rolling in the 53rd minute with a fantastic solo goal. Thabo Matlaba released the forward on the counter, and Erasmus ran at Wits new boy Kees Kwakman at pace, going this way and that, beating his man and then firing low into the bottom-left corner, 1-0.

Wits pulled one back in the 77th minute when Rooi Mahamutsa brought down Getaneh Kebede in the area. The Ethiopian stepped up to take the spot-kick himself and buried it into the bottom-left corner, 1-1.

But then came the Majoro show. Sifiso Myeni's cushion header towards the penalty spot found Majoro in space, and the striker unleashed a sweet and stunning volley into the top-left corner to open his Pirates account in fine style.

Majoro did not stop there. In stoppage time he showed his quality after bending a perfectly timed run to stay onside to receive Myeni's through-ball before taking one touch and chipping the ball over the advancing Jackson Mabokgwane, 3-1, game over.

Majoro only played about 30 minutes but was awarded the MTN Man of the Match award, such were the quality of his goals.

The Students will feel aggrieved at the final scoreline as they missed several chances before Pirates opened the scoring.
