Pitso: Vilakazi makes Downs play

Mamelodi Sundowns

The 2014 PSL footballer of the Year struggled to match expectations last term when he joined Sundowns in a big-money move from Bidvest Wits.

Vilakazi started 14 Premiership games in 2016/17, scoring four league goals along the way.

'Vila' has since undergone a positional switch from number nine to 10. And although he is yet to score this season in nine league appearances Mosimane is pleased with the 28-year-old's progress.

“He [Vilakazi] is coming up nicely. He’s our number nine, we bought him as a 10 and now he’s nine,” said Mosimane.

“He does well for us, he holds the ball well and he makes us play. It’s unbelievable how life is.

“Sometimes as nine, as a focal point for us, he’s been brilliant and he’s got good touches on the ball.”

Log leaders Downs will play their penultimate match of the year against Bloemfontein Celtic at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday (15h30) before concluding 2017 with a visit from Cape Town City on December 19.
