Lebese scored his second goal for Sundowns in his 10th outing in the 3-2 loss to Polokwane City last weekend.
"It hasn't been easy. Slowly but surely I'm trying to get with the speed of the team and I think it is a work in progress," said the 28-year-old, who spent nine years with Chiefs.
Lebese sat out the 2-1 win over Ajax Cape Town at Cape Town Stadium on Tuesday night, and accepts competition for game-time is fierce at the log leaders.
"It's not taking time. You have to look at the whole team, I mean they were doing well. We were getting back-to-back wins, players playing in my position were playing well, so I have to wait for my chance."
Downs coach Pitso Mosimane revealed Lebese asked to be substituted during the match against City played in blistering heat in Limpopo. Lebese admits he still lacks match fitness.
"It was okay. I haven't started a game in a while and on the fitness it wasn't very good, but it was okay," he added.
"So it is something that I still need to work on. It felt good to be on the score sheet but we lost the game, so for me it counted for nothing. But it was good for my confidence to be back with the team, scoring the goal, trying to help the team to win the match, but it didn't work out on the day."
