Maritzburg take on Chiefs at Soccer City on Saturday.
According to the Team of Choice’s website, the club medical team is “working around the clock” to prepare the squad for the Amakhosi match.
Maritzburg have had some bad luck with injuries so far this season, with new signing Nhlanhla Vilakazi ruled out with a long-term knee injury in pre-season, David Booysen also on the long-term injury list after a knee knock, and Delron Buckley out with a hamstring injury.
The good news for the club is that, after being out for a couple of weeks, new signing Ashley Hartog resumed full training this week and is available for selection against Chiefs.
“David Booysen and Nhlanhla Villakazi both underwent operations for knee injuries incurred at training and during a friendly match against Thanda Royal Zulu in late July,” club physiotherapist Garth Oliver tells United’s website.
“Vilakazi’s rehabilitation is progressing nicely while David will begin his rehabilitation in the next two weeks.”
Buckley tore his hamstring against University of Pretoria and will be out for six weeks, while Terrence Mandaza and Orlando Smeekes suffered minor injuries as well.
“We have begun comprehensive rehab with Delron, on his back and hamstring, while Orlando and Terrence have both resumed training after taking knocks in the Tuks game,” Oliver says.
