Radebe: Defence key for Bafana

Kaizer Chiefs

The South Africans face back-to-back 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against the Indomitable Lions, who lead Group M with six points. Bafana have one point.

Radebe says he has been impressed by the duo’s partnership and expects them to get even better.

“The boy from Ajax Cape Town [Coetzee] will be a great defender,” he told KickOff.com. “Mathoho alongside him will form a great partnership at Bafana Bafana.

“Having a great centre-back partnership is not only about the two centre-backs, it’s about the entire defensive line from right-back to left-back. If you don’t have that you will be exposed.”

Meanwhile, Radebe says he has no intention of getting into coaching “unless it’s at a highest, national team or Leeds United”.

“I believe there’s more to coaching – the structure has to be right and there are lots of elements that need to be right. I don’t want to deal with other issues other than what I’m there for.

“I’ve been tempted to go back to Leeds United; if I had the badges the temptation would have overawed me. But it’s a longshot, I don’t know.”
