Zwane eyes MDC glory for Chiefs

Amakhosi have experienced a tough three seasons with the first team, who have failed to clinch any silverware since winning the Absa Premiership title in 2015.

The Glamour Boys reserve team, meanwhile, last season claimed the inaugural Multichoice Diski Shield trophy after beating Mamelodi Sundowns 3-1 in the final in May.

This season they have not started off on a promising note - collecting just five points from their opening four matches – and recently lost 3-2 to SuperSport United on Sunday.

“We played very well [against SuperSport]. And if we continue doing that, the results will come,” defended Zwane on his club's website.

“We should have done better defensively, because it shouldn’t happen that they score twice from set-pieces.

“We also need to be sharper in front of goal, but that’s football. I am happy about our performance, although obviously not about the result.”

This weekend, Chiefs take on high-flying Free State Stars reserves in the MDC festival hosted at the Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium on Sunday (12pm kick-off), and the former winger is well aware of what to expect.

“They play a kind of route-one football with two wingers whipping in crosses from the flanks. We are ready and are prepared to fight hard for the three points,” he added.

With the likes of first team stars Kabelo Mahlasela, Wiseman Meyiwa, Khotso Malope amongst his arsenal, '10111' feels every reason to aim for their maiden Diski Challenge title this season.

“I am not too bothered [with the log position] at this stage. It’s not how you start a league campaign, it’s how you finish. We intend to win the MDC this season,” he concluded.
