The multi-purpose facility will be constructed on the NWU Vaal Triangle Campus, in Vanderbijlpark, Gauteng, and will be focused on the Chiefs brand, merchandise and training.
Construction of the building is expected to start by the end of 2013, and the centre should be operational by mid-2014.
“This pioneering initiative is a first for both sport and higher education in the country,” Chiefs corporate communications manager Vina Maphosa says. “It will see the establishment of multi-purpose, Kaizer Chiefs-dedicated walk-in centre on the Vaal campusm which is one of South Africa’s leading and largest educational institutions.
“In a nutshell, we want our supporters to come to this centre and be able to see memorabilia of the club’s past achievements, while student will have access to certain information about the Kaizer Chiefs brand, and how Chiefs came about, and about past players who have graced and played for the club.”
