Khune and Mathoho were included in Owen da Gama's national under-23 selection as overaged players for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

Despite SAFA CEO Dennis Mumble saying the national team is more important than the pre-season friendly, Amakhosi have announced that both players will participate in the match just four days before their Olympic opener on August 4.

"We have made an arrangement with the coach, Owen da Gama, and his technical team that the players will be released to join the Olympics squad after the Carling Cup," football manager Bobby Motaung told the club's website.

"We have communicated with the coach, Da Gama, that the players will fly on Sunday, 31 July, to be on time to catch-up with the Under-23s in Rio before their first match on 4 August."

Motaung further adds that the decision was taken to assist the sponsors of the event, as well as the many fans who have voted for their star players to start in the friendly spectacle.

“We understand our obligations to support the national teams and at the same time we want to serve the supporters and bring sponsors into football,” he concluded.
