Mashamaite suffers injury blow

Kaizer Chiefs

The former Kaizer Chiefs centre-back limped off in the 41st minute for Swedish side Hacken, who booked a spot in the Final of the Swedish Cup following a 3-2 victory over Hammarby, and has now gone under the knife to repair the damage which will see him sit out the next two to three months.

“Bollklubben Häcken defender Tefu Mashamaite has had surgery after the injury he suffered in the Cup semi-final against Hammarby, and is now forced to devote himself to rehab for 2-3 months,” a statement on the club’s official website read.

Diagnosed as a tear in the leg muscle, Häcken are hoping to get Tefu back on the pitch as soon as possible.

“The goal is to get Tefu fully restored, and the prognosis is favorable,” club physiotherapist Patrik Ghazarian said.

Mashamaite has been a mainstay in the Hacken defence in their successful cup run thus far, starting the last five matches en route to the Final – set for May – which the 31-yar-old now looks likely to miss through injury.
