'Zongo will prove himself at Chiefs'

GladAfrica Championship

Bizana Pondo Chiefs believe Masibusane Zongo still has what it takes to play pro football after handing him yet another lifeline in his wayward career.

Zongo, 30, has signed a short-term contract with Chiefs until the end of the season after impressed coach Julius Dube at training, where he has been for several weeks already.

The former SuperSport United midfielder could make his debut for the club when the Eastern Cape-based side hosts Royal AM in the GladAfrica Championship on Saturday.

Club boss Nathi Mqokiyana remains confident that Zongo will prove his worth at Chiefs, who are currently sitting at the bottom of the NFD table with 13 points after 15 games.

"Zongo is a very talented star and you can't take that away from him," Mqokiyane tells KickOff.com.

"He has been training with us for two months now. I am confident that he will prove himself that he can still play football at professional level.

"He has signed a short-term contract until the end of the season with an option."

Zongo last turned out for Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila when the club was still in the first division last season but left under a cloud the kind of controversy that has followed him throughout his career.
