Salah rescues Reds on Gerrard return

Liverpool 1-0 Aston Villa

Liverpool remained second on the log after a narrow 1-0 win over Aston Villa in Steven Gerrard's return at Anfield.

After a goalless first stanza, Mohamed Salah eventually broke the deadlock for the Reds in the 67th minute from the penalty spot.

Jurgen Klopp's charges are just one point behind log leaders Manchester City while Gerrard's men remained in 12th place on the log.

The Reds will be in action again next Thursday when they host Newcastle United in the evening while Villa will visit Norwich City next Tuesday in the evening.

Chelsea 3-2 Leeds United

Chelsea got back to winning ways after after edging a five-goal thriller against Leeds United thanks to a brace by Jorginho at Stamford Bridge.

Raphinha broke the deadlock for Leeds just before the half-our mark from the penalty spot but Mason Mount levelled matters for the Blues just before the half-time break.

Jorginho gave Thomas Tuchel's charges the lead just before the hour-mark with a spot-kick but Joe Gelhardt levelled matters for Marcelo Bielsa's men seven minutes before time.

However, Jorginho snatched the winner for Chelsea with a stoppage time penalty.

Chelsea remained in third place, two points behind log leaders Manchester City while Leeds were left lying in 15th place.

The Blues will resume their league schedule next Thursday at home against Everton in the evening while the Whites will travel to Manchester City next Tuesday, in the evening.

Arsenal 3-0 Southampton

Arsenal ended their two-game losing run after thrashing Southampton 3-0 at the Emirates Stadium.

Alexandre Lacazette broke the deadlock for the Gunners midway through the first stanza, shortly followed by the second goal by Martin Odegaard and Gabriel put the game to bed just after the hour-mark.

Mikel Arteta's troops reduced the deficit behind fourth spot to just a single point while Southampton remained in 16th place.

Arsenal will be back in action next Wednesday when theu host West Ham United in the evening while the Saints will visit Crystal Palace on the same evening.
