Chiefs set for historic CAF trip

CAF Champions League

Kaizer Chiefs have issued confirmation of their maiden CAF Champions League group stage voyage to North Africa next weekend.

Chiefs last month qualified for the group stages of the flagship continental inter-club competition for the first time in their history after overcoming challenges from Cameroon's PWD Bamenda and Angola's Primiero de Agosto in the preliminary rounds.

Amakhosi have since been drawn in Group C, alongside Moroccan giants Wydad Athletic Club, Guinea's Horoya and Petro de Luanda of Angola.

They will begin their round-robin campaign against the two-time African champions on Saturday, 13 February, at the Mohammed V Stadium in Casablanca. Kick-off has been set for 22:00 (SA time).

This will be the Soweto giants' first ever meeting with Wydad, who are familiar foes of DStv Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns, with the two sides having met 10 times in recent years.

The Glamour Boys will be hoping to break a record with their trip to Casablanca, where WAC have yet to lose to a South African side in five matches.

Similarly, Sundowns will be counting on their local rivals to uphold the Moroccan's winless record in Mzansi, where The Brazilians have won three times and drawn twice.

In the meantime, Chiefs will have their attention on GladAfrica Championship outfit Richards Bay FC, whom they will welcome to FNB Stadium for their Nedbank Cup Last-32 clash this Saturday (17h00).
