Dludlu lauds Bantwana's brave display

Bantwana, appearing at the World Cup for only the second time in the team’s history, collected a first ever point in the competition following a dogged display against the Mexicans. They need some strong defending throughout the game to keep out the Mexicans, who dominated proceedings.

“We had two debutants today [on Tuesday], first ever caps in national colours, so it was great for us to see them. Obviously there’s some areas we need to improve on, preparing for the game. But so far I am happy with the performance and the heart they showed on the field,” Dludlu said.

Mexico captain Nicole Perez, meanwhile, says they are frustrated that they did not collect three points.

“We don’t feel disappointed as such, just frustrated at not having won the match.

“We didn’t expect that outcome, but I’m convinced that we’ll win our next two matches and put this one behind us.”

Bantwana will be back in action on Friday when they take on Japan in Maldonado. Brazil and Japan played to goalless yesterday, so all the countries in Group B are on one point.
