Bafana can beat 21-year record

Bafana

That mark currently stands at 15 matches, previously set between September 1994 to January 1996, when they were finally defeated by Ruud Krol’s Egypt in the pool stages, but still went on to lift the African Nations Cup on home soil.

But the current squad, for all their off-field problems with combustible coaches and players in temporary retirement or banished from the national team, have managed to match that run and could go one better if they avoid defeat to Guinea Bissau in Durban on Saturday.

Their last loss was with a ‘C’ side in an African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifier at home to Angola in October 2015.

The likes of Wandisile Letlabika, Levy Mokgothu, Mlungisi Mbunjana and Roggert Nyundu, not players in the normal course of things that would be considered for national team duty, got a run that day.
