Masinga’s advice to Vilakazi

Speculation that the 23-year-old could join one of the ‘big three’ is heightening following his debut for Bafana Bafana during their 1-1 draw against Morocco recently.

Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns were reportedly already keen on roping in Vilakazi’s services before he was selected by Bafana coach Gordon Igesund for the match.

Now Vilakazi is now also being linked with a move to Orlando Pirates.

However, the Soweto giants – who are preparing for their CAF Champions League encounter against Esperance – told that they do not want to dwell on the rumours.

It is against such a background of assumptions that Masinga advises Vilakazi to keep his cool by staying at Wits and focusing on his flourishing career.

“I watched him [Vilakazi] during the 1-1 draw against Morocco and I was really impressed by his hunger and desire to go forward,” Masinga says.

“It is a pity that he missed out on a scoring opportunity in that match but he is a young player and he will grow and learn from that experience.

“I advise him to stay at Bidvest Wits so that he gets more game-time. In my view moving to a bigger club might affect his game-time so he must stay at his club,” Masinga says.

‘Chippa’ also urges Igesund to keep faith in young players: “Vilakazi and other young players must be given more exposure. The coach is on the right path because these players are the future of the country.”
