Bafana’s record in Polokwane

It will be the fifth match the national team has played in the city, and so far the record stands at three wins and one defeat.

That loss came in 2009 against Chile, when Vadlivia and Alexis Sanchez scored in a 2-0 defeat.

The first match in Polokwane was a 4-1 Cosafa Cup semifinal win against Swaziland, with Teboho Mokoena netting twice, and Jabu Pule and Stanton Fredericks getting the other goals.

Shakes Mashaba was in charge for the game, and also for the next one in Polokwane – a famous 2-1 Nations Cup qualifying win against Ivory Coast, with Shaun Bartlett and Siyabonga Nomvete getting the goals.

The most recent match in Polokwane was in May 2010 – the 5-0 win against Guatemala which has since been exposed as one of the games under the spell of notorious match-fixer Wilson Perumal.

On that day Katlego Mphela netted two penalties, while Reneilwe Letsholonyane, Surprise Moriri and Bernard Parker also found the back of the net.
