Mahlangu glad to be back

Mahlangu, who had been laid low by a groin injury, played the final 30 minutes and was delighted with his showing which included laying on a goal for teammate Darijan Bojanic.

“It was great to come back and play,” he told reporters. “The coach told me to go out there and show off my smile. I was very happy to do so and after I made the first goal, I ran out to him to show him my smile!

“I felt nothing in the groin, it felt good. It's always tough to come back, but we had to balance my training to make sure I was OK.”

Mahlangu was just beginning to hit top form after nine months on the sidelines with an Achilles injury when he was laid low again and missed the last three matches for his side before the league took a break for the World Cup.

The first assignment for Mahlangu, should he prove his fitness, will be a UEFA Europa League qualifier on July 3. Goteborg will only know their opponents when the draw is made for the first and second rounds on Monday.

The news of Mahlangu’s return to fitness is also good for the national team, who have no set competitive assignments until September qualifiers for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.

Mahlangu was just beginning to make his mark in the national team jersey with some fine displays in the 2013 Nations Cup and 2014 World Cup qualifiers before his Achilles injury sustained in training last July.
