Patosi surprised by Igesund dismissal

SAFA took the decision not to renew Igesund's contract as national team coach on Monday and Patosi, who scored his first international goal against Australia last week, is surprised. had the opportunity to sit down with the 21-year-old Lokeren midfielder on Wednesday to share his perspective.

"For me, the coach we had, Gordon Igesund, I like him. He gave me the chance to play for Bafana Bafana," Patosi said.

"So I was working good with him, we had a good combination, so I can say he was good for the country and I don't know what the decision … I'm not into the decisions, what they do with the country, but personally I liked Gordon Igesund. He gave me the chance to play and shine for the country.

He added: "Also, Gordon pays attention to us, the players from Europe. Also to me, he'd sometimes give me calls and we'd talk. He followed my games when we played. Rob Moore [his agent] used to tell me that Gordon was happy with my game, he just spoke with Gordon. So he followed my games and the games of other players [in Europe]."

How will Igesund's departure affect the squad and Patosi, who was just starting to make his mark under the former Moroka Swallows coach?

"We just have to stay professional, these things happen in the game," he says. "The next incoming coach, he's gonna come and I'm just gonna do my job and stay professional and see how things go."
