SuperSport United winger Modiba is currently with the South Africa team in Zambia for the Four Nations tournament and is hoping he can convince Baxter to select him for the Afcon qualifiers later this year.
Bafana got their continental qualifying campaign off to a great start with a 2-0 victory over Nigeria’s Super Eagles in Uyo last year. After missing out on qualifying for the 2018 Fifa World Cup in Russia, Bafana need to make it for it by booking themselves a spot at the Afcon in Cameroon next year. They last participated in 2015, when Shakes Mashaba was in charge of the national team.
Modiba would love to be part of the squad that competes in the biggest tournament on the continent, but he knows that competition for places in the team will be difficult.
“That’s my goal right now. I have to work hard and make sure that I get a call-up regularly.
"But it’s not going to be easy because you’ve got a great bunch of players in the country and others who are playing abroad. So I just have to push and make sure that I make the team for Afcon. We also have to make sure we win as well.”
