Bafana ended the tournament as plate winners after beating Botswana on Friday night. The likes of Modiba, Lebogang Maboe, Siphesihle Ndlovu and Taariq Fielies did well in the national team jersey during the tournament in Polokwane and could form part of coach Stuart Baxter’s 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying squad.
The AFCON qualifiers resume in September and Bafana have a home match against Libya next, after the historic victory over Nigeria in Uyo in their opening group match last June.
“The future looks great with the team that we have right now. You can see that the players that are here are playing week in week out in their respective teams, and it is good to see something like this – youngsters given a chance to showcase their talent,” the SuperSport United player told SAFA Media.
“I just hope we get more youngsters so that we can put the country where it is supposed to be. I was happy with the squad and I hope to see more youngsters coming through.
“Experience-wise, it was important for us to know each other and experience the senior national team. Most of the players here gained a lot of experience and they can only take that forward because no one can take away that experience.”
Modiba is hoping to see himself in the AFCON squad.
“I just have to push, work hard, stay injury-free and anything can happen. I want to see myself in the national team because it has been my dream and I am enjoying that dream right now. I hope to be in the next squad but only hard work can take me there.”
