Lebogang Phiri proved the hero when he bagged his first ever senior international goal in his sixth appearance for the national team, since making his debut in March 2015.
Coach Molefi Ntseki made six changes from the team that fell to the Black Stars, with Erick Mathoho and Thapelo Morena coming in for Buhle Mkhwanazi and Thamsanqa Mkhize to keep a clean sheet.
Kamhelo Mokotjo was drafted in alongside Dean Furman for Bongani Zungu, who picked up a knee injury in Ghana, while Thulani Serero, Phiri and Lebogang Mothiba all replaced Thato Mokeke, Thembinkosi Lorch, and Bradley Grobler respectively.
The victory sees Ntseki register his first competitive victory since taking over the reins from Stuart Baxter in August, while Bafana move above the Falcons of Jediane into second – behind new leaders Ghana, who face bottom side Sao Tome and Pricipe on Monday evening.
