'You'll end up like Ronaldinho, Neymar'

A new report has revealed an argument that occurred at FC Barcelona a few years back, when Brazilian superstar Neymar was told he would end up like former Blaugrana star Ronaldinho.

Arguably one of the best players of his generation, Ronaldinho did not enjoy a particularly memorable end to his career, and it now appears that this was used as a way to insult fellow Brazilian Neymar during his time at the Camp Nou.

After five seasons with the Blaugrana, Ronaldinho left the Catalan giants to join Italian giants AC Milan in 2008. The reasons for his departure have been widely speculated, with some reports suggesting that his departure was due to a fallout with then-manager Pep Guardiola, while others have claimed it was due to disciplinary reasons and a decline in performances.

Nonetheless, Ronaldinho's exit from the Blaugrana was viewed in an acrimonious light in some quarters, and his career after leaving LaLiga has been debated by many.

According to Latin American publication Bitbol, the end of the Selecao legend's playing career was seemingly used to offend Neymar by ex-Barca assistant manager Carlos Unzue, who deputised during Luis Enrique's spell in charge of the club.

It is said that Neymar and Unzue were having an argument in the dressing room after a match against Villarreal in 2017 when the latter remarked that: "If you continue like this, you will end up like Ronaldinho."

The comment reportedly only angered Neymar further as he considers Ronaldinho to be a good friend of his, and just a few months later he joined Paris Saint-Germain in a world-record deal.

Unzue later revisited that encounter, insisting that he was only trying to motivate the player.

"I have had words and conversations like the one I had with Neymar with all the players," he explained.

"[These] experiences make them aware of certain moments could help them.

"That was my intention. That is what gives me peace of mind."
