He has thus become only the second player ever from his country to represent the Bundesliga club, following compatriot Bouna Sarr, who is still on the Bavarians' books.

The right-back joined Bayern on a four-year deal from Ligue 1 side Olympique Marseille in 2020, but has found game time hard to come by in Germany, having made just 12 appearances across all competitions last season.

While the Lions of Teranga fullback remains at the club with whom he has won four titles already, it is understood an exit may soon be on the cards.

Like Sarr, Cameroon forward Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting is also a current Bayern player, having also arrived at the club from France during the same window as the aforementioned defender.

The former Stoke City star joined the Bundesliga outfit from Paris Saint-Germain at the time, and mainly provides cover for star striker Robert Lewandowski.

Arguably the greatest African to represent the Bavarians, however, is club legend Samuel Kuffour.

The retired defender spent more than a decade with the German giants, having joined the club's U19 side in 1993. He would soon be promoted to the first team, with whom he competed in two UEFA Champions League finals.

The centre-back lost the 1999 decider against Manchester United, but managed to win it just two years later, against Valencia in 2001.

Overall, he won a staggering 19 trophies with Bayern, according to Transfermarkt – check out the gallery above to see more African stars who have played for the Bavarians!
