OFFICIAL: UCL last 16 match-ups revealed

The 2021/22 UEFA Champions League round of 16 draw took place earlier this afternoon, and it produced some breathtaking match-ups for the next stage of the competition, including Cristiano Ronaldo vs Lionel Messi!

It has been confirmed that last season's winners Chelsea will be facing Ligue 1 reigning champions Lille in a two-legged, knockout tie that promises to provide much entertainment for spectators early next year.

Record 13-time champions Real Madrid, meanwhile, will travel to Portugal to face Benfica, while Liverpool and Red Bull Salzburg are set to square off in another of the competition's most highly-anticipated encounters. 

Arguably the tie that raised eyebrows the most is Paris Saint-Germain's clash with Manchester United, with footballing titans Messi and Ronaldo set to do battle once more, while Robert Lewandowski's Bayern Munich will face Diego Simeone's Atletico Madrid as the Bavarians look to reclaim the prestigious title they last won in the 2019/20 campaign.

The first leg of the round of 16 ties are scheduled for 15, 16, 22, 23 February 2021, with the return fixtures set to take place on 8,9,15,16 March. 

UPDATE: Following errors in the initial process, the above draw has been declared void and will be redone at 16:00 South African time, UEFA has announced.
