Messi 'annoyed' with PSG media ties

World News

Lionel Messi is reportedly annoyed at a certain French newspaper that has close ties with Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi.

With a massive reputation behind him, Messi was expected to hit the ground running in Paris and set Ligue 1 alight after making the sensational switch to France from FC Barcelona as a free agent in August.

However, things have not exactly panned out that way, with the Argentine star having had a mixed bag of performances since his arrival at the Parc des Princes.

Members of the media have not let this go unnoticed, and there have been a number of criticisms aimed at the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner by various news outlets.

According to El Nacional, Messi is not taking this treatment from the press too kindly, and is understood to be upset with newspaper Le Parisien in particular, which he knows PSG president Al-Khelaifi has close ties with, a relationship that has seen the publication claim a number of club exclusives.

It is said that Messi believes that the reporting on him has been too harsh, especially when it comes to match ratings.

The 34-year-old and his entourage reportedly feel that the ratings produced by Le Parisien have, at times, been undeservingly low, and that the manner in which he is written about could affect his relationship with the PSG fanbase.

It is also said that the former Barca captain feels there is an agenda from the press in general against him and the club, with L'Equipe once writing: "Lined up as a false nine, he was quite shipwrecked," following a game for which they gave him a rating of four out of 10.
