Man Utd & Chelsea 'in race' for Real star

World News

With both clubs yet to sign any players so far in this window, Chelsea and Manchester United are now said to be in a race to sign a Real Madrid star ahead of next season.

With the rest of the Premier League "big six" having made a number of signings ahead of the 2022/23 campaign, the Blues and United are understood to be hard at work to bring in recruits as a new era beckons for both teams.

According to Spanish outlet Sport, the Red Devils and Chelsea have entered into a battle for Real winger Marco Asensio's signature.

With the Spain attacker set to be out of contract next season, Los Blancos now have the option of either selling the player, tying him down to a new deal or letting him run his deal down.

While Asensio is rumoured to be on his way out at the Santiago Bernabeu, here are six players who've linked with Real recently:

It is said the European champions are prepared to extend the 26-year-old's contract, but are not willing to meet his wage demands, thus making his exit likely.

With a reported market value of €40 million (R671 million), Italian champions AC Milan are also said to be pushing to sign the player.

It is further claimed that Asensio will choose his next destination based on two conditions: whether or not his wage demands of €7 to €8 million (R117 to R134 million) a season after tax are met, and the guarantee of being a starter.
